Gandhi Mandap is a Museum constructed in memory of "Father of the Nation" Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, on the hilltop of Sarania Hill, Guwahati. It is one of Guwahati's vantage points with vehicle access only. Gandhiji visited Saranya hills and thus this was made in his memory. His first visit was in 1921 and last was in 1946. It was inaugurated by Mrs Indira Gandhi and Former Chief Minister of Assam BishnuramMedhi in 1970.
The objective is to preserve the heritage and historical significance associated with the place and convert the place into a potential tourism spot with naturally existing scenic viewpoints.
The Rehabilitation and beautification of Gandhi Mandap Memorial Complex at Sarania Hilltop was suggested by the Additional Chief Secretary (GDD) in May 2017. In this backdrop, GSCL / Tata Consulting Engineers conceived this project and presented this Concept Plan and in continuation presented a Feasibility Report, Detail project report and tender subsequently.
The estimated cost of the below works is Rs. 3.10 Cr and the total Land requirement for development is approximately 1.07 Ha.
The construction period will be 4 months and single package RFP was published on Assam e-tender. The work has been awarded to the successful bidder last week.
